Cupertino, USA – Ecrio, the leading provider of LTE real time communications client software, announced today the issuance of patent US 9,152,478 by the USPTO on October 6, 2015 covering the deployment of native Rich Communications Services (RCS) clients with a single IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) stack. Ecrio was granted intellectual property rights pertaining to the distribution of RCS functions across application and modem processors with a single IMS stack. RCS, defined by the GSM association, include IMS based core functions such as Voice & Video over LTE (VoLTE, ViLTE) and multimedia IP Messaging targeting a variety of end user services. To date, the VoLTE framework has been embedded in the Modem Processor, leaving other RCS functions to be implemented as separate applications running on the Application Processor with separate dedicated IMS stacks. Such multiple IMS stack implementations result in higher costs, IMS stack fragmentation, higher power consumption and longer time to market. Ecrio's patented method (FlexIMSTM) enables chipset vendors and handset vendors to deploy RCS clients without the need for multiple IMS stacks and associated issues. This method of designing RCS solutions is applicable for clients on Primary Devices (i.e. LTE Smart Phones) as well as Secondary Devices (i.e. Tablets, PCs and CPEs).

The patent, entitled "Real Time Communication Client Architecture", (US 8,639,253) was issued on January 28, 2014. The patented method covers the distributed architecture of IMS based software clients among Application and Modem Processors. The second patent, entitled “System, Method and Apparatus for Controlling Multiple Applications and Services on a Digital Electronic Device” (US 8,613,002) was issued on Dec 17, 2013. This patented method enables multiple IMS services to be active simultaneously using a single IMS Stack.
